Origins and History

A Highball is not a single cocktail recipe but rather a category of drinks which includes some of the most commonly consumed mixed drinks in the world such as the Scotch & Soda, Gin & Tonic, Rum and Cola and Vodka & Orange.

In its simplest form, a highball is two ingredients – a spirit and a (usually) carbonated mixer, combined over ice in a tall, narrow glass – known as a highball. This simple formula however, provides a canvas for a huge amount of experimentation with flavour as well as the opportunity to perfect the individual components (such as in the Japanese Highball)
